Candidate Q&A

Q1

What's your top priority, and what's your plan to achieve it?

My top priority is Public Safety. I am the only one on council that has been a police officer (over 30 years). We have no control over the policing in this City. I do not want to get involved in investigations, but I do believe that we as council should have the up to date number of officers who are fully operational. How do we fix it, I believe we need a five year plan, to phase out the RCMP and have a Force of our own.

Q2

What is your plan to address homelessness in Moncton?

My plan for Homelessness, is for everyone to understand that, first it is a provincial matter, but we have to solve this. I always break it down into three boxes. First is the people who are on the street because of money issues and the rent too high. Second, is addiction, we can not place them in shelters and expect to fix this problem. Long term care with 24 hrs supervision by professionals, maybe even if they do not want to go, change the rules so they have to get help. Third, Mental Health,

Q3

Moncton's policing budget has grown significantly in recent years, yet concern about public safety remains high — how would you approach public safety spending as an elected official?

I believe I spoke about this in #1

Q4

How do you see Moncton growing over the next decade — where should we build, and how should people get around?

Public transportation is one of the most important issue going forward. As a City that I policed for over 30 years, grew so fast without any help from the province regarding public transit, Infrastructure, or planning. If the province goes to build a school, they never ask the City where we would like it built. They place it where they want and then we have to build the roads /water and sewage.

Q5

Which major developments do you plan to support in the next four years?

I am a strong believer in youth, I really want to see more recreational facilities for our youth to grow strong and health. Maybe we can stop the next wave of youth and mental health

Q6

How will you make life more affordable for Monctonians feeling financially squeezed?

What I would like and what i can do, is very different. I would like stronger laws to protect renters and stop the bad landlords from taking advantage of people in need. We have to be the voice to the province to stop this abuse

Q7

Where do you think the city can generate new revenues or find cost savings?

The city which has grown so much, should be able to cut property taxes to rental building and make sure it is passed along to the renters. The city can only generate revenues by two things, raising taxes or raising cost for services.

Q8

What's a decision Moncton council has made in the last four years that you disagreed with, and what would you have done differently?

Paying 60 million dollars for the new police facility

Q9

Outside of the issues above, what's one thing you'll be focused on that voters might not expect?

Ask the province to give us the money to build affordable housing, so we can get it done, using the people who need homes, to help build them

Q10

Tell us something about yourself that voters wouldn't find on your campaign website.

I am a believer in doing what is right for the needy, people down on their luck. I believe in our youth, having mentors to help them with issues. Listening to people and being their voice on council. I am also a Toronto Maple Leaf Fan, i m a family man, who loves having them around me.

Q11

Final word?

Thank you for reaching out to ask the hard questions, I see myself as a person who uses common sense to make decisions. I like to research problems, so we don't have to reinvent the wheel.
