Candidate Q&A

Q1

What's your top priority, and what's your plan to achieve it?

I have witnessed and been told by residents that public safety in all neighborhoods and downtown Moncton, along with traffic issues are most concerning, and I would support initiatives such as downtown projects that address safety concerns and help residents feel safer. Support having our by-law officers increase their mandate, by having them sworn in as peace officers with more authority. Support traffic initiatives to reduce speeders. Encourage residents to call the appropriate authorities and

Q2

What is your plan to address homelessness in Moncton?

Support the groups working "together" that are getting results to lower the number of Homeless and addressing the root problems. Stop working in "silos" and encourage the city and province to help bring together the numerous organisations and work cohesively towards a solution. Stop spending money without concrete results. No more shelters with no results.

Q3

Moncton's policing budget has grown significantly in recent years, yet concern about public safety remains high — how would you approach public safety spending as an elected official?

I would question the increases and demand evidence based results, improvements should be attained to further increase spending.

Q4

How do you see Moncton growing over the next decade — where should we build, and how should people get around?

I attended the recent Vision Lands presentation from the city staff and agree with the overall plan, however, there are always improvements and adjustments that need to be addressed with long term projects of this nature, which I am ready to face and discuss to get what is best for all involved. Bus routes need to address the needs and areas for all citizens utilizing the services and perhaps smaller ev buses could be looked at for certain routes.

Q5

Which major developments do you plan to support in the next four years?

I believe a convention center would bring many economic spin-offs and only help further grow Moncton in all areas. Stadium at U de M should be utilized and booked with activities to promote both the university and the city. (sports, cultural)

Q6

How will you make life more affordable for Monctonians feeling financially squeezed?

Taxes are increasing all around us, however, as a council, we should be looking for the money elsewhere, we should maintain our tax rates and question our spending, be accountable. Support housing programs that take affordability seriously and address low income rentals.

Q7

Where do you think the city can generate new revenues or find cost savings?

Convention center, and use of the stadium could bring many economic spin-offs.

Q8

What's a decision Moncton council has made in the last four years that you disagreed with, and what would you have done differently?

No answer provided.

Q9

Outside of the issues above, what's one thing you'll be focused on that voters might not expect?

Community engagement, having pride in where you live starts with your home, neighborhood, city. Encourage community clean ups, bbq's and not wait for someone else to pick it up, just do it because you want to have a nice city. Maintain a dialogue with residents for feedback and concerns, throughout my 4 year mandate.

Q10

Tell us something about yourself that voters wouldn't find on your campaign website.

I have been happily married for 32 years with 2 adult children (30 and 29 years old) who inspired me and supported my decision to continue serving my community as a city councilor. (after 27 years of serving as a police officer)
