Candidate Q&A

Q1

What's your top priority, and what's your plan to achieve it?

I have 4 priorities; however 2 top priorities will be on: Safe and secure neighbourhoods by the removal of drugs from our streets, establishing a peace officer program for community officers directed by the city, installing AI public safety cameras downtown and beyond. Real action on homelessness by developing a comprehensive St. George St plan, providing land for affordable housing and targeting underutilized properties to increase available housing.

Q2

What is your plan to address homelessness in Moncton?

Homelessness requires an immediate focus and action developing a comprehensive St. George St plan, providing land for affordable housing and targeting underutilized properties to increase available housing.

Q3

Moncton's policing budget has grown significantly in recent years, yet concern about public safety remains high — how would you approach public safety spending as an elected official?

Between 2021 and 2026, Codiac RCMP added 22 budgeted officers for a total of 169. Codiac RCMP require 4 more officers to match population to the number of officers equalling 173 officers. A hybrid policing approach which can produce large savings is needed, where City of Moncton community officers along with special constables and social workers provide daily cost-effective interventions allowing the Codiac RCMP to focus on removal of drugs on our streets and eliminating organized crime.

Q4

How do you see Moncton growing over the next decade — where should we build, and how should people get around?

Moncton is in a great position to develop and densify neighbourhoods throughout the city. Proper planning with citizen input is needed so that the city develops in a purposeful planned approach for the future. Increased investments in public transportation, active transportation, trails and connectivity are key to a successful vibrant city.

Q5

Which major developments do you plan to support in the next four years?

There are several areas needing investment in the future. Downtown Moncton requires additional convention space to attract large conventions and community gatherings. The city needs to lead with convention space and the development of a new market for our Riverfront. The North End pool infrastructure combined with a satellite library is a priority. Also, water conservation and Forest Fire management are needed.

Q6

How will you make life more affordable for Monctonians feeling financially squeezed?

There needs to be a focus on providing lower fees for public transportation. Lobby for provincial property tax changes that favor municipal tax payers and increase financial programs to help citizens.

Q7

Where do you think the city can generate new revenues or find cost savings?

The City of Moncton will need to conduct an independent review of expenses, employee salaries with a focus on increased financial return on investment for tax payers. The City will need to focus on enforcement of parking violations, bylaws and other areas that can change behavior and generate revenue.

Q8

What's a decision Moncton council has made in the last four years that you disagreed with, and what would you have done differently?

City Council decisions are difficult but once a decision is made, all of council must accept the outcome. I would strive to have better communication and public involvement prior to upcoming decisions therefore increasing transparency for all.

Q9

Outside of the issues above, what's one thing you'll be focused on that voters might not expect?

Building a city for the future by developing a water conservation and forest fire prevention strategy, creating energy projects with regional waste such as supporting investments in sewage treatment handling that drive revenues such as converting our waste into energy using an anaerobic digester to address North End odours as well as evaluating Magnetic Hill and Stade future use, increase investments in parks, trails, active transportation along with North End pool infrastructure.

Q10

Tell us something about yourself that voters wouldn't find on your campaign website.

I'm passionate about preservation of historic architecture including the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de l'Assomption. See video link: https://youtu.be/RKX1rlXef3g

Q11

Final word?

It's time to deliver for the citizens of Moncton. And together we can build a safer and more affordable Moncton.
