Candidate Q&A
Q1
What's your top priority, and what's your plan to achieve it?
Housing affordability and access is my top priority. It influences almost everything else including cost of living, safety, and whether people can continue to live in Moncton. At the municipal level, we can help by updating zoning and planning rules, enabling more housing supply in appropriate areas, and reducing delays in the approval process. We need to make it easier to build the kinds of housing people actually need.
Q2
What is your plan to address homelessness in Moncton?
Homelessness is a complex issue that includes housing supply, income supports, and health services. While the city does not control all parts of the system, we do have a role in coordinating with partners, supporting shelter and housing initiatives, and ensuring zoning and land-use decisions make supportive housing possible. We also need to focus on practical solutions that move people toward stable housing.
Q3
Moncton's policing budget has grown significantly in recent years, yet concern about public safety remains high — how would you approach public safety spending as an elected official?
Public safety matters to everyone. As a councillor, I would look closely at how municipal safety dollars are being spent and whether they are effective. I would also support a balanced approach that includes prevention through municipal tools such as planning, housing policy, public space design, and youth programming delivered or supported at the local level. The goal is to ensure resources are aligned with real outcomes in the community.
Q4
How do you see Moncton growing over the next decade — where should we build, and how should people get around?
Growth needs to be managed carefully. I support focusing new housing in existing neighbourhoods and along key corridors, where infrastructure already exists, and allowing thoughtful density where appropriate. We should also continue improving local transportation planning so people can move more easily and safely within the city.
Q5
Which major developments do you plan to support in the next four years?
I support developments that add housing supply, strengthen existing neighbourhoods and downtown, and make efficient use of existing infrastructure. Each project should be assessed on whether it improves long term livability, affordability, and access to services for residents.
Q6
How will you make life more affordable for Monctonians feeling financially squeezed?
Municipal government can contribute by helping increase housing supply, investing in efficient infrastructure, and improving access to transportation and city services. These are the areas where local decisions can help ease pressure over time.
Q7
Where do you think the city can generate new revenues or find cost savings?
We can improve value for money by regularly reviewing programs and services, reducing duplication where it exists, and ensuring development pays its fair share of infrastructure costs through existing municipal tools such as development charges and planning requirements. Good long term planning also reduces costly reactive spending.
Q8
What's a decision Moncton council has made in the last four years that you disagreed with, and what would you have done differently?
In general, I believe city council should be careful about decisions that respond to short term pressures without fully addressing long term implications. I would prioritize clearer evaluation of outcomes and ensure we are using municipal resources in ways that show measurable benefit over time.
Q9
Outside of the issues above, what's one thing you'll be focused on that voters might not expect?
A key focus for me is access, meaning how people move through the city and reach jobs, services, and everyday needs. This includes transportation planning, walkability, and how our neighbourhood design supports daily life.
Q10
Tell us something about yourself that voters wouldn't find on your campaign website.
I've worked in a range of community and frontline roles. That experience shaped how I approach problems: listen first, stay grounded in what is actually happening on the ground, and focus on practical solutions that can be delivered.
